Bulldog Spirit Cushion Sewing Pattern

Product Code: 0057
Bulldog Spirit 16" square cushion from Quilting Antics.
Many years ago we designed a Union Jack cushion and called it Scrappy Jack due to the raw edge and slightly scrappy method of its construction. It was always hoped that with use the flag would fray and become wonderfully distressed and this would add to the raw edge appliqué effect. Scrappy Jack was a design in its own right, even without adding appliqué on top it.
When the Corona Virus struck and much of the world went into lockdown, we had a think about how we could design projects which would both empower and reassure people that one day everything would be OK and return to normal.
Being British, there is one quintessential emblem of British strength and that is the British bulldog. The image of Winston Churchill with the Bulldog and his ensuing message of strength and courage has been associated with the British Bulldog ever since; considering this it was a 'no brainer' there was only one image we could possibly use to sum up the mood of the nation.
We began with our Scrappy Jack cushion which can be very simply made by ripping strips of fabric so the edges are a little feathered and stitching them down as minimally as possible. Our bulldog is then appliquéd on top so that the union flag looks like a beacon, illuminating the dog from behind.
The pattern contains full instructions for the flag and the British Bulldog. An applique pack is available with the fabrics for the bulldog so that you can applique it onto any background you like.
